Program Admissions Information

The deadline for completed applications is available on the Future Students website: http://ucalgary.ca/future-students/graduate/explore-programs/computer-science-doctor-philosophy-thesis-based.

To satisfy program course requirements, a set of proposed courses must be approved by the supervisor(s) and the Graduate Program Director or delegate, in their entirety; individual courses cannot be approved in isolation. In addition to Faculties of Graduate Studies and Science admission requirements, the Department requires:

a) A Master of Science, thesis-based degree from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 3.30. For exceptional students applying with a Bachelor of Science degree, a four-year Honours degree or its equivalent from a recognized institution with a minimum GPA of 3.70 and demonstrated research ability.

b) All students whose primary language is not English are required to take a language proficiency test: TOEFL (Internet-based) with a minimum score of 97; IELTS with a minimum score of 7.0; a CAEL score of 70 with no section less than 70; a PTE with a minimum score of 68; or the Cambridge C2 proficiency with a score of 191. This requirement can also be met by completing the Academic Communication Certificate with a minimum grade of A- in writing courses.

c) Two letters of reference.
